What is EPDM?

EPDM is an elastomer that is comprised of ethylene, propylene and diene, hence the letters that make up its name. The M in its name comes from its ASTM classification, which indicates that it features a saturated chain of the propylene type

Depending on the brand of EPDM, there is different ethylene content, the higher the ethylene content, the easier it is to mix and load the polymers during development.

Benefits:Some of the benefits of using EPDM in a wide range of applications include:

- Excellent resistance to weather, heat and ozone
- Excellent resistance to polar conditions
- Excellent resistance to steam
- Excellent electrical properties
- Compatible with alkalis, hot and cold water, ketones and hydraulic fluids

Potential

EPDM is a popular roofing choice by those who harvest rainwater for personal sanitation or hygiene use. The reason it works so well is that it does not pollute the runoff or collected water, keeping it clean and safe for use.
